Scope: Dedicated encryption accelerators are now commonly implemented on many CPUs due to their performance, power-efficiency, and security advantages over software implementations. Thus, we are exploring the design and implementation of high-performance, energy-efficient, encryption blocks that also have low side-channel emissions. We are specifically examining AES, SHA-3, and ECC algorithms for circuit and micro-architecture optimizations. We have designed logic styles that have low side-channel emissions, yet have performance and power near that of insecure logic.

Outcomes: IC prototype testchips demonstrating high-performance, energy-efficient, low side-channel emissions encryption blocks.
