Research Area: Secure Home Computing
Cross Cutting Thrusts: Usable Privacy and Security
Scope: Design basic security principles and mechanisms to build a trustworthy digital home environment that will be secure for non-expert users.
Outcomes: Tools and techniques that can significantly simplify use of access control in the digital home. Increased understanding of user behavior and access control needs in the emerging home storage environment. Enhanced education at Carnegie Mellon and elsewhere, as the new insights are embedded into storage systems, distributed systems and computer security classes. Release the prototype system developed (for their studies) as free software for others to use for research, class projects and perhaps their own deployments.
